Sport is very important in the valley and team games have always been the most important. Being in Wales Rugby Union is of course is probably the biggest sport as both Blaengarw and Pontycymer have very good rugby clubs and have good teams and also the youth teams of the valley are well supported. Soccer is also very important in the valley and the athletic team Garw Athletic is well supported and has always had a good place to bring on young talent with the Garw 33 Boys club. The Valley also Has a good Cricket Team who are doing very well at the moment. And finally the bowls teams are also very enthusiastic and the bowls meets are again well attended.

Pontycymer Rugby Club's club house in in Oxford street and the home ground for the team is Lawrence Park. The Emblem of the club can be seen on the left. Below you can see the team playing in the home colours of green and gold the Squad on this day were:-

Blaengarw RFC's Club House is strangely enough just across'The village border'and is in Pontycymer. The Club has just passed it's 100th year as it was founded in 1898.
