Bethel Presbyterian Chapel (formally CM Church) was where my granfather David Evans (Dafydd Ifans y saer), my father Ronald Rees and I were all elders. I left in 1987 and today I am a Minister of Tredegarville Babptist Church in Cardiff. Bethel is where my wife and I married and we hold many memories of the glorious saints who worshipped within its walls.

I am currently researching an art exhibition on Vincent Brown, who was head of the art department at Garw Grammar School between 1949 - 1964. He painted the set designs for the many theatre productions in those years. I was wondering if anybody had photograph's of some of these set designs, possibly with photo's of the actors etc. that could be somehow included in the exhibition. I appeared in, and have lovely memories of, many Christmas shows performed at Tabernacle Chapel. I remember attending Miss Thomas' house for Welsh tuition for Sunday servies. I would LOVE to hear from anyone in Pontycymer/Blaengarw that can provide me with any information. I have not been back there for many, many years but hope to visit next year with my Scottish husband of 2 years as I would love him to visit my roots.

On the eve of my 47th birthday I find myself thinking back to my birthplace. Born 12.10.54 I lived at 19 Nantyrychain Terrace. Our family split many years ago and I would love to know if anyone remembers me - Margaret Pitman at that time? I want to learn all I can about Pontycymer, especially Ffaldau Colliery. My dad, Robert Francis Pitman, was a miner at the Ffaldau Colliery and, sadly, died in 1961 when I was 7.

Although I am several thousand miles away and working in Germany it is always nice to be able to come home to the valley, either through the web or in person. It would also be nice to be able to see the other picturesque sites around the valley.

I spent most of my youth in the Valley, playing soccer for the Garw 33 Boys club and later Garw Athletic....great memories...great people. Only point I'd like to question....Soccer was by far the most played sport in the valley....think of all the teams the Boys club put out...then there was the Garw Rangers, Garw Athletic at Blandy,Llangeinor, Bettws. It's only when you get down west of Swansea that rugby is more popular.
